A Conversation Through Art About Who Was Here Before

We take great pride in our history – Nevada City is one of the most famous Gold Rush towns in California. But who was here before the gold?

This region was already inhabited by over 10,000 Nisenan whose culture had flourished for thousands of years before the world rushed in.

After a near genocide and erasure the Nisenan people remain among us in their ancestral lands, though largely invisible. We are working to change that.

Join us this winter to experience the tribal history, ancient roots and native stories of the land that is now called Nevada County. Learn what the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan are doing to regain their Federal Recognition.
