Nevada City Film Festival Hosts The Craft of Screenwriting

Do you have a story that needs to be told? Have you started writing a screenplay and hit a creative wall? Are you looking for a supportive group of like-minded creatives to share your work with?Nevada City Film Festival will host The Craft of Screenwriting, a 2-day workshop on everything you need to write a 10-minute short film script, Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30, from 10am-4pm each day.

Leading the class is Jan Fishler, a former Bay Area Video Coalition instructor, author and producer. Joining Fishler is actress, director, playwright, and veteran acting/directing coach Sandra Rockman.

Students get a hands-on chance to create their own great stories during in-class exercises. They will explore how to capture an audience with passionate characters using charm, compassion,
complexity, curiosity, and mystery. Students will also work on creating a cast of characters and structuring a story using external and internal journeys of characters that are entertaining and
meaningful. And finally students will learn how to creative unique characters using dialogue.

This class is for writers, directors, producers, and storytellers of all-ages and levels.

Students will leave with a working 10-minute short film script that they can use to begin production on their short film. Participants in the class will also have the opportunity to submit their film to the 2017 Nevada City Film Festival.
