From an artist inspired by nature, into creating a gallery focused on that theme, LeeAnn Brook’s passion for art has been life-long. For the month of January, her gallery LeeAnn Brook Fine Art will feature a new show called Out of the Wild , showcasing seven different local and regional artists who were accepted into the Wild & Scenic Film Festival’s Juried Art Competition. The show includes the work of LeeAnn Brook, Deborah Bridges, Carol Dalton, Frank Francis, Martha Meredith, Eli Rush and Mike Snegg. The gallery will also be on the Wild & Scenic Art Stroll in downtown Nevada City on January 18 from 4:00-6:00 pm.
A painter for over 40 years, Brook comments, “I believe that creating awareness of our natural world through the form of art not only helps connect us in a deeper way, but also opens our eyes, inspiring action for preservation. I am honored to have our gallery play an important part in conveying this message.”
The work featured in Out of the Wild covers the scope of the gallery’s ongoing theme of “contemporary nature-inspired art”. With three painters in the show—Brook who works in mixed media collage paintings, Deborah Bridges, who is known for her luminous encaustic paintings and Carol Dalton, an abstract artist from Benecia—the range of styles evoke the depth of the natural world. While Martha Meredith’s playful monotype prints show layers of contemporary interpretation of the Yuba River, photographers Frank Francis’ and Eli Rush’s work goes out across the world, exploring local and global environments. Sculptor Mike Snegg has taken his signature sculpted wood vessels that he is known for, into another viewpoint, and has created three 9 foot tall totem sculptures made out of Norfolk Pine.
Opened in July 2015, LeeAnn Brook Fine Art is one of the first artist-owned galleries and on-site studios in Nevada City, California. Housed in a historic brick building from the 1800s, the gallery also incorporates the working studio of LeeAnn Brook, where visitors can see paintings in progress and discuss the art with the artist firsthand.
Out of the Wild will be open during the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, January 17-21 as well as the month of January. LeeAnn Brook Fine Art is open daily from 12-5pm and is located at 231 Broad St., Nevada City, CA.
