This March, pianist Ken Hardin will mix things up in a new-yet-old style when InConcert Sierra presents a programming form of interspersing movements from a variety of composers at “Chamber Favorites by Local Favorites.”

The March 20 concert will follow in the tradition of 18th- and 19th centuries where movements were infused throughout a performance.
“The core of our concert will entail all five movements of Dvorak’s Octet/Serenade for Strings Op. 22 dispersed throughout the program,” said Aileen James, board member for InConcert Sierra.

“Interspersed with Dvorak’s work will include favorites of the chamber literature written by Schubert, a dynamic Nonet by the Czech composer Martinu, a Sextet by Poulenc, and some daring Bagatelles by the Hungarian Ligeti.” James added.

Hardin will be joined on stage by local favorites — violinists Richard Altenbach and Kristen Autry, Melinda Rayne on viola, Jia-mo Chen on cello, Tom Derthick on bass, Kirsti Powell on flute, Murray Campbell on oboe, Elizabeth McAllister on clarinet, Dave Riddles on bassoon and Cameron Kopf on horn.

“Last spring, Richard, Kirsti and I had a blast creating this program. Being that these local favorites who are also members of our InConcert Sierra Orchestra , are quite busy in their daily lives and careers, it’s been a challenge finding rehearsal times with all 10 of us together. When we do come together, I have to admit, it’s just magical and I’m very excited to present this unusual, whimsical and absolutely delightful program,” said Hardin.

Tickets to the 2 p.m. concert are $32 for the general public and are available by phone at 530- 273-3990, online at www.inconcertsierra.org, in person at BriarPatch Co-op and at the box office on the day of the concert. There will also be a limited number of free youth tickets available with the purchase of a general admission ticket.

The concert will be at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12889 Osborne Hill Road in Grass Valley. For more information, please call 530-273-3990, or visit www.inconcertsierra.org.
