Gold Country Community Services Presents the Senior Firewood Program Documentary

A film viewing fundraiser to help our community’s seniors stay warm in the winter

Saturday, February 22, 6pm at the historic Nevada Theatre

Gold Country Community Services (GCCS) and Event Helper present a special event to raise funds and awareness about their crucial Senior Firewood Program. The GCCS Senior Wood Program is one of the few still operating in California, and that’s the inspiration behind the making of an eye-opening documentary film to be shown at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, at the historic Nevada Theater.

Since 1979, Gold Country Community Services has provided firewood to low-income seniors in Nevada County. “Our Senior Firewood Program can be a lifeline,” explained executive director Janeth Marroletti. “Seniors in rural communities such as Nevada County still depend on firewood to heat their homes. Cutting and splitting the wood may exceed their capabilities, and purchasing wood may exceed their budgets. We’re able to offer a solution to help them heat their homes during the winter months.”

Emceeing the event will be Peter Stack of Partners In Care, who returned home to Nevada County to retire and care for his aging parents after an illustrious acting and writing career in film and stage. Not one to sit idle, he found a job in a field he was passionate and knowledgeable about; senior care. Peter’s comedic sense, along with his love of our seniors, strikes just the right balance to make this an evening of inspiration, information, and enjoyment.

Tickets are $40 per person and include unlimited beer from Grass Valley Brewery and wine from Nevada City Winery in a commemorative keepsake glass and delicious appetizers prepared by Eskaton.

Tickets may be purchased by phoning 530-615-4541 or visiting the GCCS website at goldcountryservices.org. All proceeds will help support this important program for seniors.
