Alexander Rossi, winner of the 2016 Indianapolis 500, returns to his hometown September 11 and will appear as a special guest in the 50th Annual Nevada City Constitution Day Parade. The appearance was announced Thursday (June 30) by the Nevada City Constitution Day Committee.
Parade organizers have been in touch with Rossi’s management, Team Rossi Motorsports since Alexander’s stunning come from behind victory May 29 in the 100th running of the Indy 500. “Alexander is a real hometown hero,” said Sean Metroka, Constitution Day Parade Chair. “Nevada City is proud of him and is ready to roll out the red carpet and welcome him home.”
“I’m humbled by the outpouring of support from Nevada County, “Rossi said. “I learned shortly after the 500 victory that Nevada City and Grass Valley wanted to have a parade. I’m truly honored and thankful for my roots and it’s no better way to come home.”
Nevada City’s Constitution Day Parade dates to 1967 and is the premier Constitution Day observance in western America. The City rolls out the flags and bunting in what is seen as a classic all-American hometown parade.
The 2:00 p.m. parade caps a weekend celebration that includes music, historical reenactments and other activities. For more details click here.
