Last Chance for Barricade Fundraiser

ChamberStreetScene
Safety is always a first priority when planning Chamber events. This is particularly true for the parades, the Bicycle Race, and, of course, the Soap Box Derby. That is why we place barricades along the streets during these events. The problem is, we don’t have enough barricades to completely line the event route.

The Soap Box Derby committee has generously donated money to purchase another six barricades, but we need more to satisfy our safety needs. Our goal is to raise funds to purchase at least 15 additional barricades before Mardi Gras in March.

Are you willing to help? For $160, a barricade will be purchased in your name with a permanent plaque attached.

Please consider donating funds to buy one or more barricades. You may use the attached form to submit you purchase. Thank you!

The Chillbillies Celebrate Elvis Jan 4

chillbillies-elvis400.1The Chillbillies – Elvis’ 79th Birthday Party – Jan 4 @ 8pm

The Chillbillies and special guests will dust off the Elvis Presley song book for another tribute to the King of rock and roll. Sing along and dance to rousing renditions of rockers like “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Jailhouse Rock” and “Hound Dog” along with touching renditions of great ballads – “Love Me Tender” and “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You.”

The Chillbillies feature John Girton (Dan Hicks, Maria Muldaur), Tom Menig (Alela Diane, The Deadbeats), Charlie Faber (Lorraine Gervais, The Dogtones) and Ty Smith (Huclebucks, Bob Mora & the Third Degree Blues Band). The band formed in the mid-nineties to join the wave of rockabilly revival bands that included the Stray Cats, Big Band Voodoo Daddy and Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll – combining rock & roll, hillbilly, western swing, boogie woogie, and rhythm and blues. Joining the Chillbillies on vocals are Lorraine Gervais, Kate Haight and Peter Wilson. Returning on keyboards is Bob Gubber.

Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides in Nevada City

CARRIAGE

Victorian Christmas is here once again and the Nevada City Carriage Company will be providing Horse & Carriages to accent that Old time Victorian Christmas feeling that is Nevada City at Christmas. The carriages will start on Friday November 29th and operate each Victorian Christmas event right up through New Years Day!

Drivers Dave Vertin and Chuck Shea will be there to take you on your holiday ride with the “Sleigh bells ringing” and the Clip-Clop of hoofs that bring you back with thought of those days of early California in the Mountains.

Chuck Shea, who owns The Parsonage Bed & Breakfast, says it’s his favorite time of the year. He enjoys meeting new folks who come to town and guides them to our great Restaurants and Historic sights in town. All this while you take the ride tucked under a warm blanket!

Chuck states: “My two favorite spots are, The Tinman’s House (remember the Wizard of Oz?) and the old Factory road, along Deer Creek behind Miners Foundry Cultural Center. It is a special ride that takes you back 150 years.

You can catch up with Chuck and Dave in front of the Old National Hotel! While you’re waiting for your carriage at the National Hotel; get one of their Special Hot Buttered Rum drinks. Chuck says, “They’re the Best, Keeps the chill away”!

What’s the fare? It’s been the same for 10 years, $40.00 for up to six people! Now that’s a deal, even for Old Ebenezer Scrooge! See you at The National! Merry Christmas!
