How to obtain a marriage license.
The Recorder's Office is located in the west wing, second floor of the Rood Center, 950 Maidu Avenue in Nevada City. Our hours are 9:00 am until 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

What do you need to get a marriage license?
If you are over 18 years of age, you simply need photo identification. Both the bride and groom must be present when obtaining a public marriage license. If the bride or groom are under 18 years of age, please contact the Probation office at (530) 265-1300 for further information.

General Information
License good for 90 days.
License can be used throughout the state of California.
Current fee is $72.00

How long is a marriage license good for?
The marriage license is only good for 90 days from the date issued. If not used within 90 days, a new license must be obtained.

What happens to the license after the ceremony?
After the ceremony, the license is completed by the person performing the ceremony and is returned to the Recorder's office. It is required that the license be returned within 10 days after the ceremony. Once they receive the license and it is correct, they register the license. At that time, you may purchase a copy of the license either by telephone, mail or in person. The cost of the certified copy of the license is currently $13.00 if paid in person, $16 if by mail or $16 plus $5 credit card fee if by phone.
