Open Studios & Art Tour October 2012
October 6-7 and 13-14, 2012
10:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m., Free Event
Nevada County Arts is a sponsor of this year’s Fall Colors Open Studios & Art Tour and is working with the tour presenter, The Center for the Arts, to help make it a great experience for the artists and visitors alike. Nevada County Arts’ sponsorship of Open Studios was made possible by a grant from the California Arts Council State-Local Partnership Program.
This year, Open Studios takes place the first two weekends in October and features 67 artists and 34 studios on a self-guided tour throughout Nevada County. Open Studios is a chance to connect with artists, experience the places where visual art is produced, and even participate in the artistic process. Attendees may visit the workspace of painters, printmakers, photographers, ceramicists, illustrators, jewelers, woodworkers and more; watch live demonstrations; learn about an art process from concept to completion; and experience first-hand how, why, and where art is created.
Open Studios is a public event and a free guide with artists’ listings, directions to studios, and maps is available at The Center for the Arts, Art Works Gallery, ASiF Studios, Briar Patch Co-op, the Grass Valley and Nevada City Chambers of Commerce, and Mowen Solinsky Gallery. An online version is also at openstudiostour.org, and a Fall Colors Tour supplementary insert will be included in the Union on Thursday, September 27th.
The tour starts with the Artists’ Reception and Preview Party on Thursday, October 4th, from 6-9pm at The Center for the Arts. This is an opportunity to meet the artists, view their work, plan your tour, and buy art. This event is free, and all ages are welcome! The Preview Exhibit, featuring the work of the 67 artists on the tour, will remain on display in the galleries from October 4-21, 2012.
This year’s Open Studios also honors Carol Herschleb, who passed away earlier this year. Carol was the founder of the Open Studios Tour of Western Nevada County as well as a number of other local arts festivals and events and was also a founding board member of Nevada County Arts. We will continue to see her gentle and tenacious spirit shine in the many places and lives she touched. Her contributions will long be remembered and forever appreciated.
