There's a lot happening in Nevada City – mark your calendars!

Farmer’s Markets continue until Saturday, October 30th, ends with a Hoe Down

The Farmer’s Market in downtown Nevada City happens every Saturday from 8:30 a.m.– 12:30 p.m. through October 30th, and features fresh seasonal produce & flowers, live music, educational demonstrations and great food. On October 30th, there will be an old-fashioned Hoe Down from 5-11 p.m.

Also, every Tuesday there’s the Nevada County Certified Grower’s Market at the Sierra Presbyterian Church (175 Ridge Road at Nevada City Highway, Nevada City). The Tuesday market takes place from 3:00 p.m. til 6:00 p.m. through October.

Fall Colors Looking to Peak the Last Week of October, First Week of November

The Nevada City-Grass Valley area, with outstanding Gold Rush history and good choices in lodging and dining, has become known as one of California’s best areas to view autumn foliage. The best fall colors in Nevada City and Grass Valley are located in the old-fashioned Victorian neighborhoods surrounding the downtown historic districts. The most spectacular displays are in century-old Red Maple trees planted by early settlers.

Fright Night (Oct. 30) Dance Party at the Miners Foundry, Nevada City

Make plans to join us for Fright Night and the San Francisco music award-winning ALBINO, a ten-piece Afrobeat ensemble that honors the fiery legacy of Nigerian musical revolutionary Fela Kuti along with the popular rock group Casual Fog backed by an all-star line-up. The historic Miners Foundry Cultural Center in downtown Nevada City will transform its beautiful stone walls into a spooky haunted house. Join in on the fun and dress up like your favorite rocker! BYOB – A New Kind of Wine Seller in Nevada City

Wine lovers can rejoice!  This last September, Nevada County Wine Guild’s founder, Tony Norskog, former Nevada City Mayor and City Council Person Paul Matson and current City Council Person Sally Harris opened BYOB Wine Seller, a new kind of wine tasting room on Zion Street in Nevada City. The tasting room is a smaller-scale endeavor to cater to environmentally conscious consumers. Customers can buy a bottle of wine at BYOB, then bring it back for refills and get a $1 discount.  The idea came when Norskog heard that only about 7 percent of glass recyclables actually get reused. Come on by for a taste. They are open from Noon to 5:30 Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Only $5.99/bottle and $4.99 on a refill.

Make your plans for Victorian Christmas in Nevada City

Victorian Christmas, the old-fashioned celebration held each year in this colorful California Gold Rush town, evokes holiday memories of an earlier era. During the event, Nevada City’s landmark historic district is closed to motorized traffic and transformed back in time. Christmas melodies and costumed characters remind visitors of another time and place.

Victorian Christmas 2010 is featured Wednesday nights, Dec. 1, 8, and 15, from 5-9 p.m., and on two Sunday afternoons, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19, from 1:30-6 p.m. There is no admission charge. more information.

Christmas at the Railroad Museum

Join us Saturday, December 4th, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum for a FREE holiday celebration featuring Santa, door prizes and a silent auction. Come have some Halloween Fun at the Fairgrounds on October 30th

Bring your family and friends and enjoy the festivities from 2- 5 pm. Rain or shine, in costume or street clothes, you’ll enjoy the many events planned at the Main Street Center at the Fairgrounds.
