Armstrong, one of the world’s best known athletes, is a seven time winner of international cycling’s biggest event, the Tour de France. |
Lance Armstrong returns to Nevada City after racing but not taking the crown here in the early 90s. Be part of the spectacle as world class racers compete on a 1.1-mile lap course through historic downtown NC. Cheer as racers sprint down Broad Street at speeds that can exceed 50 mph.! Racing action begins at 1 p.m. with the 90-minute timed main event slated for 5 p.m. Come out and see Lance and his fellow riders. It’s free. It’s Father’s Day in Nevada City. Bring Dad. He’ll love it. Free Concert in the Park June 28 Bring the family, a picnic dinner, blankets, lawn chairs and enjoy the beautiful band music of your friends and neighbors. Monthly concerts will also be held July 26 and Aug. 23. Plus you can see the Concert Band on Constitution Day weekend, Sept. 12-13, in downtown NC. Fireworks in Nevada County ! The Fourth of July fun opens at 11 a.m. with a traditional hometown parade through downtown Grass Valley. Then it’s off to the Nevada County Fairgrounds for a daylong community celebration, culminating in the 9:30 p.m. aerial fireworks show. Fairgrounds gates open at 3 p.m. and music begins at 4 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults; free for ages 12 and under. Goin’ to Market in NC The Nevada City Certified Growers Market is held from 3-6 p.m. each Tuesday at the Sierra Presbyterian Church, 175 Ridge Road. The Nevada City Farmers Market runs every Saturday through October. In addition to fine fruits and vegetables it features live music, kids activities and more. It’s located on Union Street, just off lower Broad Street, every Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon (9 a.m. to 1 p.m. after Labor Day). Planning Ahead....
