Classic Bike Race Comes to Town

The 48th Annual Nevada City Bicycle Classic comes to town on Sunday, June 15, bringing world-class road racing to the downtown historic district. A Father’s Day tradition, the NC Classic is the oldest bike race on the West Coast.

The tough Nevada City challenge attracts cycling’s best. Tour de France legends Greg LeMond and Lance Armstrong have tackled NC’s steep climbs and wicked descents, as has defending Tour of California champion Levi Leipheimer.

Treat Dad to a Father’s Day he won’t forget. Bring him out to see some of the top competitive cyclists in the world. For details, see Nevada City Bicycle Classic.

Building a Better NC

Through the years, Nevada City has conquered its share of economic ups and downs. Today’s economic pinch notwithstanding, Nevada City is still the place to be.

Business investment in the downtown historic district has really picked up this spring. Finishing touches are being put on the new Robinson/Tintle building at 100 Union Street, downtown’s finest addition in many years. Tenants will soon be moving in. Along with the new building came the new town square at Robinson Plaza in front of the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center, adding a new dimension to a key area of town.

Other work in progress includes the former Mostly Clay building on Broad Street, where a complete restoration is in progress and a new kitchen store is planned. The former Pine Street Market and the one-time gas station at Pine and Spring streets are both being remodeled for new business ventures.

Nevada City is on the move. Come on downtown and check it out!

NC Introduces Self-Guided Tree Tour

The Nevada City Tree Tour is a fold-out guide and map to 42 special native and non-native trees in the downtown Nevada City area. It’s a self-guided walking (or driving) tour that will create heightened appreciation for our local trees.

The tree tour is the brainchild of horticulturist and tree care consultant Ellen Solomon, who obtained a major grant from California ReLeaf and funding from several local organizations, including the NC Chamber of Commerce. Solomon will introduce the tour with a walk on Tuesday, May 20. It is free, open to the public and departs from the Chamber Visitor Center at 132 Main Street at 5:30 p.m. The tour will last about an hour.

Insider’s Guide to Parking in NC

Did you know there are 1000 parking spaces within a stone’s throw of historic downtown Nevada City? Sometimes it may seem hard to find a parking space, so it is helpful to know where to look.

"The Insider’s Guide to Parking in Nevada City" is a brochure distributed by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce. It shows parking lots, metered parking areas and free parking areas. Download a copy or pick one up at the chamber office.

Summer Nights in July

Nevada City celebrates the season with a special Wednesday night event, Summer Nights in Nevada City, this year on July 16, 23 and 30. Hours are 6-9 p.m. Downtown streets are closed to motorized traffic and filled with friends, music, arts, crafts, classic cars and more.

Some of the Northern Sierra’s finest musicians perform on five outdoor stages located throughout the downtown historic district. More than a dozen artists will offer live art exhibitions.

For details, see Summer Nights in Nevada City.
