Mardi Gras Feb. 2-3
For midwinter fun -- rain, snow or shine -- here's nothing quite like Mardi Gras in Nevada City. Pull out your beads, masks and finery and be part of the fun!

The Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball, featuring the Holcomb Brothers Band, is at Miners Foundry on Saturday night from 8-midnight. Tickets are $10 in advance ($15 at the door, if available). Call the Nevada City Chamber at 530-265-2692.

The Mardi Gras Parade is at 2 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday, well before game time, so come on out! It's a wild time as gaily masked societies parade down Broad Street, showering the crowd with beads and trinkets. The Mardi Gras Street Faire runs from 11-4 on North Pine and Commercial streets.

Businesses Invest in NC
The holiday season was a mixed bag for Nevada City merchants. Some had their best years ever, others reported sales were flat or down. Business cycles are always changing.

In any case, business investment in downtown Nevada City is going strong. The new Robinson/Tintle building at 100 Union Street is the finest addition in years. Major remodeling work is under way at the former Mostly Clay store and Pine Street Market. Construction activity has picked up at the new boutique hotel in the historic ETR Powell House on South Pine Street . A new use is even planned for the old gas station at Pine and Spring streets.

Several new shops have opened in recent weeks as business people continue to put their faith and fortunes with Nevada City.

Come on downtown and check it out!

2008 Events Calendar
If there is a community with more events than ours, we'd like to see it. The western Nevada County calendar of events for 2008 is hot off the presses and includes more than 200 events of all kinds, including the popular community celebrations in downtown Nevada City.

Pick up or call for a calendar at the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce. The events are also posted at www.nevadacitychamber.com/events.cfm

Teddy Bears to Bike Racers
Nevada City's personality is shaped by some of our unique events, such as the International Teddy Bear Convention and the Nevada City Bicycle Classic.

The 26th Annual International Teddy Bear Convention will attract teddy bears and their humans from all around the west to Nevada City's Miners Foundry April 4-6. For details, call 530-265-5804.

The 48th Annual Nevada City Bicycle Classic will roar through town on Sunday, June 15, as it does every Father's Day. Tour de France legends Greg LeMond and Lance Armstrong have tackled NC's tough course.

Bring Dad out to see some of the cycling world's best. For details, see

Insider's Guide to Parking in NC
Did you know there are 1000 parking spaces within a stone's throw of historic downtown Nevada City? Sometimes it may seem hard to find a parking space, so it is helpful to know where to look.

“The Insider's Guide to Parking in Nevada City” is a brochure distributed by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce. It shows parking lots, metered parking areas and free parking areas. Pick up a copy at the chamber office.
