'Summer Nights' 2007
Downtown NC's celebration of the season, "Summer Nights in Nevada City" concludes with a final Wednesday night of fun on June 25. Hours are 6-9 p.m. on the historic streets of Nevada City. Streets are closed to motorized traffic and filled with friends, music, arts, crafts, classic cars and more.

Live entertainment June 25 (on five free outdoor stages) includes local blues favorite Lorraine Gervais, juggler Izzi Tooinsky, belly dancers Troupe Al Ama, Ivan Najera, John Girton and Oceans Three.

Tiny City is Big on Ethnic Foods
Historic Nevada City may be small in size but it offers a large variety of ethnic dining experiences. No wonder Nevada City is a dining and entertainment center of the Northern Sierra.

Within the six-block downtown historic district, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, diners will find these specialty restaurants:

California cuisine
Mediterranean cuisine
Mexican
Chinese
Italian
Thai
Sushi
Fondue
Cajun

We even have a hamburger place (but no fast food)!

Farm Fresh Food in NC
Visit Nevada City for local, farm fresh fruits and vegetables. A Nevada County Certified Growers Market is scheduled every Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning August 3 and continuing through September. It's on York Street across from City Hall. Nevada City also features a Tuesday market that runs through October. Hours are 3-6 p.m. at the Sierra Presbyterian Church, 175 Ridge Road. For information on the markets, call 265-5551.

A Must-See Town
Take it from someone who knows; Nevada City is worth a visit.

Patricia Schultz, author of the New York Times No. 1 bestseller "1,000 Places to See Before You Die," lists Nevada City in her newest book.

Schultz mentions Nevada City predominantly among California Gold Country destinations in her newly-released book "1,000 Places to See in the USA and Canada Before You Die"

"Nevada City is perhaps the most interesting of the Mother Lode towns," Schultz writes." The Nevada Theatre, Emma Nevada House, Yuba River and the South Yuba River Citizens League Wild & Scenic Film Festival earn mentions.

The new book is available from local book stores.

Independence Trail
At the South Yuba River eight miles north of Nevada City is the Independence Trail, a unique outdoor attraction for the whole family, including those with physical limitations, including wheelchair riders.

The outdoor access trail is built along the flumes and berms of the Gold Rush era Excelsior Ditch, which once carried water to downstream hydraulic mines. Visitors can experience history, forests, waterfalls and more along two and a half miles of trail.

The marked trailhead is visible from Highway 49 before the river and includes parking, handicap-accessible restrooms and information kiosk. The trail was developed by Sequoya Challenge, a local group that works with State Parks. More Hikes

A Classic Small Town
Experience California's golden past while enjoying the charm and color of today's Northern Sierra foothills. Visit historic Nevada City.

Walk the narrow streets, explore fine specialty shops, restaurants and watering holes. Sample fine Sierra foothills wines at three downtown tasting venues. Bed down in one of several historic hotels or bed and breakfast inns.

Stop by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce at 132 Main Street to learn about all the great things to do here.

Autumn Color in NC
Plan a visit to NC this fall. Many people believe it has some of the prettiest fall colors in all of Northern California.

Colors here in the Northern Sierra foothills are accentuated by cool autumn nights followed by warm afternoons. Bright tones of red, orange, gold and yellow paint the local hillsides.

Each year is different so it's hard to predict when the best colors will appear. Visitors are invited to call the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce for updates on when the local color will be best.

For fall color tour maps and information on recreational activities, dining and lodging, call the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce at (530) 265-2692 or toll-free (800) 655-NJOY. On-line information is found at www.nevadacitychamber.com.
