'Ducks Down Under'
Arrives in Nevada City on Sept. 13th

All the thrills and excitement of Australian-style duck racing come to Nevada City on Saturday, Sept. 13, as the 49er Breakfast Rotary Club of Nevada City hosts "Ducks Down Under," the 17th Annual Gold Country Duck Race.

Carrying an Australian theme, the duck race will be held on the rapids of Deer Creek at the foot of Broad Street in historic downtown Nevada City. The event is the Rotary club's major annual fundraiser, benefitting many local school, youth and community organizations.

The fun family event features a children's carnival with games and activities, music and entertainment and food and refreshments. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and admission is free.

Approximately 9,000 toy ducks will race down Deer Creek in four preliminary heats beginning at 11 a.m., with the 100 top ducks from each heat qualifying for the Final Lucky Race, which is planned for about 1:45 p.m.

The race offers a $5000 first prize, $1000 second prize and $500 third prize plus smaller cash prizes in each heat and many other cash and merchandise awards, along with food prizes from Papa Murphy's Pizza and McDonald's.

Racing ducks may be adopted for $5 from 49er Rotarians and from many of the community groups that will benefit from this year's event. Tickets are available at the event.
