Nevada City is identified as one of the most beautiful towns in California in a new 208-page, full color coffee table book Titled “The Most Beautiful Villages and Towns of California,” the book is written by noted travel writer Joan Tapper and photographed by Nik Wheeler. It is published by Thames & Hudson of New York and carries a retail price of $40.
A six-page color spread on Nevada City includes 11 of the book's 323 color illustrations. The accompanying text focuses on the town's vibrant cultural atmosphere in a rich historic setting.
"Behind the historic facades are a host of contemporary establishments that range from art galleries and clothing boutiques to bookstores and chic restaurants," Tapper writes.
The book covers 30 towns and villages across California and includes listings of places to stay and eat. The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce is listed in the acknowledgements.
Chamber Executive Manager Cathy Whittlesey says the chamber responds to media queries, provides information and photos and assists writers and authors whenever possible.
"It's very special to be featured in a book like this," Whittlesey said. "When Nevada City is listed right there with some of California's most beautiful towns, it gives us a heightened sense of pride in our hometown and it also has very positive impacts on our economy."
"We are included in many of the leading travel books and guides," said Whittlesey. "This is a very important way that we can help keep Nevada City's name and image in the public eye."
