KNCO Wins, Donates $5000
in 49er Rotary Duck Race

Bob Breck, left, general manager of KNCO, accepts the $5000 first place check from Roger Krill, president of the 49er Rotary Breakfast Club of Nevada City, Ducktator (race director) Bob Yazell, and Duck Race mascot Whitewater Willie.

KNCO Radio was the $5000 first place winner in “Fiesta de los Patos (Party of the Ducks),” the 18th Annual Gold Country Duck Race, held Saturday (Sept. 12) on Deer Creek in Nevada City.

Bob Breck, general manager of the Grass Valley radio station and a member of the Grass Valley Rotary Club, said the $5000 first prize would be divided among all five western Nevada County Rotary Clubs for local community service projects.

A ticket purchased by KNCO matched the number of the duck that emerged from a field of about 9000 ducks to take top honors in the annual event which is held as part of Nevada City’s Constitution Day weekend celebration.

John Lipe of the Sacramento area won the $1000 runner-up prize and ERA Cornerstone Realty placed third, winning $500. Many other cash and merchandise prizes were also awarded. Nevada County Business News Magazine was the winner of the sponsor’s race.

The duck race is sponsored by the 49er Breakfast Rotary Club of Nevada City. The race is the club’s largest annual fundraiser, providing financial assistance to numerous school, youth and community groups.
