Hallmark Channel is proud to announce that 16 time Emmy® Award nominee and seven time Emmy Award winner Edward Asner has been selected by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences as a nominee for the 2007 “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie” Emmy for his performance as Luke Spelman in the Hallmark Original Movie “The Christmas Card.”  The film, which premiered Saturday, December 2, was the network's highest-rated telecast ever.  The 59th Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented on Sunday, September 16 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

"The Christmas Card" stars Asner, John Newton, Alice Evans, Peter Jason and Lois Nettleton, tells the story of a soldier (Newton) with no family who, while serving in Afghanistan, receives an anonymous holiday card that touches him deeply.  Upon returning to the United States, he seeks out the person who sent him the card (Evans), only to fall in love with her and be accepted by her family, including her former-soldier father Luke, played by Asner.

"We are exceptionally happy for Ed and proud of his nomination," said David Kenin, Executive Vice President, Programming, Hallmark Channel. "'The Christmas Card' is a wonderful film that honors the men and women in uniform, and Ed's vibrant portrayal of a former soldier and family patriarch is poignant, funny and moving.  Our sincere congratulations to Ed, who has notched yet another accomplishment in his storied career."

"The Christmas Card" is an RHI Entertainment Presentation of an Alpine Medien Production in association with Larry Levinson Productions. Robert Halmi Jr. and Larry Levinson are executive producers.  Stephen Bridgewater directed from a screenplay by Joany Kane.
