Local Business Support for Mardi Gras
Nevada City's 2009 Mardi Gras celebration is being made possible through the generous support of several local businesses.
The Mardi Gras Committee extends special thanks to The Union newspaper and KNCO Radio for advertising and marketing support.
The committee also wishes to recognize cash and product sponsors Budweiser/Nor Cal Beverage, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Tailgators Sports Bar and Grill, SPD locally-owned supermarkets, The National Hotel and Saloon, Coopers, McGee's Annex, Bonanza Oriental Gifts, Peter McDonald of Edward Jones and Co. in Nevada City, Nevada City Postal Company and Nevada City Winery.
The weekend celebration kicks off Saturday night (Feb. 21) with the annual Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball at Miners Foundry. The event features the Holcomb Brothers Band and delicious Cajun foods. The event usually sells out so advance tickets ($10) are recommended. Call the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce at 265-2692. If available, tickets will be sold at the door for $15.
The Mardi Gras Parade moves down Broad Street through the historic district beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 22). Thirty or more entries are anticipated, including the popular Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band. The parade is a fun, free event for the whole family.
