Food & Film Series Presents “Sideways” Aug 3
On Friday, August 3rd, for one-night only, The Nevada City Film Festival and Miners Foundry Cultural Center present the Award-winning film “Sideways” plus a hearty and delicious dinner featuring California cuisine by A Family Affair and 5 tastings of local wines, plus live jazz music from the Sierra Jazz Society.
How much trouble can an unsuccessful writer and a depressed middle school English teacher get into during a road trip through the Santa Ynez Valley wine country? Plenty! Part of the “Food & Film Series”, “Sideways” is about two men reaching middle age with not much to show for it. They embark on a week long road trip to explore California’s wine country while ultimately searching for their identities. “Sideways” stars Paul Giamatti, Thomas Haden Church, Sandra Oh, and Virginia Madsen.
Before and following the film, enjoy five tastings from vintage cabs and buttery chardonnays by local award-winning foothill wineries. Dinner will be served in the beautiful and historic Stone Hall of the Miners Foundry.
A Family Affair’s Chef Roger Saker has created a sumptuous menu that includes: Pan roasted salmon with braised cajun relish and Nantua Sauce, which it made from lobster, served with Parmesan Mushroom Pilaf and Portabella Ratatouille; Tournedoes – center cut medallions of filet with a Cabernet Sauce, fresh roasted garlic in mashed potatoes with stir-fried carrots with basil; Vegetable Vol-au-vent – Hand made puff pastry shells filled with locally grown stir-fried vegetables with Bleu Cheese Veloute, garlic mash potatoes.

“Sideways” kicks off Nevada City Uncorked: Wine & Food Experience, August 4, 2012, 1-5pm, in historic downtown Nevada City. The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce and the Sierra Vintners present this annual event that brings together nearly 20 wineries and restaurants. More information go to nevadacitychamber.com. And on Sunday, August 5, 2012, the Miners Foundry will host the annual Nevada City Craft Fair. The independent, juried craft fair showcases the local region’s top Etsy vendors, artisans, do-it-yourself crafters, feat. their unique, handmade, original & vintage items. 10am-8pm, $3, Children under 12 free.
