Closing Weekend for Christmas Shows

December 20, 2011

At the historic Nevada Theatre….LeGacy Productions is proud to present Phillip Grecian’s adaptation of Jean Shepard’s charming work, “A Christmas Story”, directed by Judy Blake. A holiday show for the whole family, audiences will fondly remember the story of Ralphie Parker’s (you’ll shoot your eye out!!) childhood memories brought to life in the classic Christmas movie of 1983. Ralphie’s wish for a 200-Shot Carbine Action Range Model Air Rifle supplies an underlying theme to an American family’s annual holiday traditions in an even more special time in American history. Set in 1939, the Parker family and a host of other characters remind us of a simpler time, with a kid-filled cast, and lots of fun and laughs!

Also, for the Christmas season, LeGacy is proud to announce the return of Gary Wright to their company in “Santaland Diaries”. Wright delighted audiences with his portrayal of all 31 characters of Bedford Falls in last year’s “This Wonderful Life” at the Off Center Stage in Grass Valley. Returning to the same venue, Wright gives us the tales of a Macy’s “Santaland” Elf, from the hilarious works of David Sedaris, adapted by Joe Mantello. Directed by Carolyn Howarth, this show is sure to be a hoot……for adult elves only!!!

Both shows run through Christmas Eve.  General tickets are $20 in advance, ($23 at the door) for “A Christmas Story”, and $23 in advance ($25 at the door) for “Santaland Diaries”. Tickets are available at The Briar Patch and The Bookseller in Grass Valley, Harmony Books in Nevada City, online at www.legacypresents.com or by calling (530) 268 5419.

Merry Christmas!!!!

Ten (of the many!) Reasons to enjoy Victorian Christmas this year!

November 29, 2011

Season’s Greetings
Come wander the lanes of Victorian Nevada City, as the glow of twilight settles, with the scent of pine boughs & freshly roasted chestnuts floating in the air and the sound of carolers and holiday merrymakers accompanying your stroll. Meet your friends and neighbors. Join with old and new friends for a drink of hot mulled cider and a few verses of your favorite holiday songs. You’ll be surprised by who you’ll see and celebrate with on the streets of our town during this festive time!

Family Entertainment
From jugglers to fine musicians, carolers to storytellers, we have something for everyone. We’re bringing back old favorites from past events and adding new performers and some indoor venues this year. Warm up to a string quartet or watch Victorian characters strut their stuff against a backdrop of genuine Victorian shops and houses. Checkout the entertainment schedule for Victorian Christmas. Each night and afternoon of Victorian Christmas will be different—with jugglers, story tellers, traditional music, choirs, and so much more. You’ll want to come to this free event more than once!

Find the Perfect Gift
Visit the shops of and stalls of Nevada City to find one-of-a-kind treasures, fine art, romantic clothing, handmade soaps and candles, alluring glass treasures and dazzling jewelry. Complete your holiday shopping or discover the perfect dress for that New Year’s Eve party. Shopkeepers will welcome you, share a story or two, and send you on your way laden with packages and a hearty “Happy Holidays.” We have gifts for everyone at Victorian Christmas—and you don’t need to break the bank while shopping locally. There’s something for every pocketbook and every taste including hand-picked and hand-made items you won’t find at any mall.

Festive Feasting
Enticing aromas of roasted chestnuts and hearty foods fill the air as you walk the winding gas lit streets of Nevada City. Make sure you sample the wide variety of food of outdoor vendors or dine inside at one of Nevada City’s gourmet restaurants or specialty shops. From award-winning chefs to warming street food, there’s fare that is certain to satisfy every appetite, from children to gourmands.

Join the Party
For over three decades it has been the holiday tradition of families all over Northern California to escape the commercialism of crowded, indoor shopping malls and come instead to festive Nevada City to celebrate the best the holiday season has to offer. Come with family and friends, while rekindling fond memories and making new ones. And this year, why not add to the party by dressing as a Victorian! We’re encouraging people to dress up and add to the Victorian flavor of the event. It’s easy and fun! You don’t have to spend lots of money or time to do it. You’ll find tips and ideas on our website at www.nevadacitychamber.com/events/victorian-clothing-tips.cfm

Cheers!
There are drinks to please everyone’s palate at Victorian Christmas. There’s something to warm the cockles of your heart and satisfy the heartiest of thirsts. You can sip hot chocolate or mulled wine while watching a choir or passing juggler or stop by Nevada City’s tasting rooms to sip the wines of Nevada County vintners.

Cold Comfort
Why not warm your hands next to chestnuts roasting on an open fire? We are welcoming back Cecil Snow, our favorite Victorian chimney sweep who will keep the fire going every evening of Victorian Christmas. Feast on yummy chestnuts as you listen to groups of carolers on the stage at the Bank of America parking lot. Chestnuts are provided by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce– make sure you don’t miss this grand tradition.

Sing for Joy
Join in with one of the many choirs and singing groups who will be strolling through town and performing at Victorian Christmas. On each day of Victorian Christmas you’ll find a wide variety of singing groups throughout the town. Come ready to give voice to traditional carols and more recent holiday songs!

Deck the Halls
Add Christmas cheer to your house with handmade wreaths, baskets and ornaments from our many craft vendors and unique stores. Buy some for friends or keep them all for yourself to make your home festive and fun throughout the holiday season. And don’t forget to buy handmade cards to send to far away friends and relatives. They’ll appreciate that “something special” on their mantelpiece this year.

Make it easy on yourself
Why drive through holiday traffic to a distant mall when you can take a special $5 round-trip Holiday Shuttle to Victorian Christmas from the parking lots at the Nevada County Government Center at Highway 49 and Maidu Ave? Drop your group off in town and then catch the Shuttle. Return journeys are free for all. Shuttle hours are 4:30-9:00 pm Wednesdays and noon-6:30pm Sundays.

For more information, contact the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce at (530) 265-2692 or toll-free (800) 655-NJOY.
