Help Sierra College Foundation Reach Their Goal

June 21, 2011

This winter, the Sierra College Foundation launched the “Climb Higher: the Osher Matching Scholarship” campaign to raise money for scholarships for Sierra College students. The Bernard Osher Foundation generously agreed to match every dollar donated to this campaign by 50 cents, in addition to its initial gift of $25 million dollars to California Community Colleges.

The Nevada County Coordinating Council is just $11,944 away from their $68,000 goal. 100 percent of every dollar donated by Nevada County residents will go directly to funding these scholarships for Sierra College students in our local community. Five annual scholarships of $1,000 per year in perpetuity will be rewarded to students residing in Nevada County and attending the Sierra College system, here or in Rocklin or Truckee.

Their deadline of June 30th is quickly approaching though and we need your help! No donation is too small, every dollar helps!

Donors can either establish a “named” scholarship in the discipline of their choice (minimum $13,334, matched 2-1 by Osher) or can donate any amount to the general “Climb Higher” campaign. Local organizations that have generously donated thus far include Soroptimist International Grass Valley, The Ladies Relief Foundation, Nevada County Law Enforcement and Fire Protection Council and the six Rotary clubs of Nevada County.

Envelopes are available at all Citizens Bank branches, and you can send directly to Sierra College on Sierra College Drive in Grass Valley and note that your donation is for The Osher Matching Scholarship Challenge.
