Colorful Mardi Gras Parade Entries

Kim Welllman of the Nevada City Chamber is ready for Mardi Gras. Are you?
The Nevada City Mardi Gras Parade is known for its colorful, entertaining, off-the-wall and often zany parade entries.
Among the participants in this year’s event are the featured Lyman Gilmore School Band, the California Consolidated Drum Band and the ever popular Petting Zoo.
Also look for Samurai Sam, Ancient Warrior of Unknown and Dubious Origin; the Latitude 38 Parrot Heads, Grass Valley Moose Lodge/Moose Riders, Kaptin Kyle’s Dread Pirates of the Sierra Main, the Merry Widows, E Clampus Vitus, Chapter 10; and many more. More than 30 parade entries are signed up.
Grand Marshal is Jeff Ackerman, editor and publisher of The Union; the Mardi Gras King and Queen are Tim and Nancy Brown, and Grand Duke and Duchess are Carl “Big Daddy” and Jackie Spotts.
The fun begins at 2 p.m. Sunday on Broad Street. Be sure to wear your best Mardi Gras attire!
