More Film Festival News!

January 10, 2012

It’s not just a film festival any more. The Wild and Scenic Film Festival, the largest of its kind, will amp up the night life in Nevada City with three consecutive shows after the films end and the dancing begins.
Three shows have been added in the evening, two at the Haven Underground and the final on Sunday, Jan 15th at the National Hotel. Tickets are available at Wild and Scenic Festival Headquarters at 210 Broad Street, Nevada City.

On Friday, Jan 13th from 10 pm to midnight, the Railflowers will perform. Saturday night, also at the Haven Underground, Brett Shady and Dead Winter Carpenters perform, and the return of the Belfry Brothers rounds out the weekend at the National Hotel.

Brett Shady follows in a long line of rock musicians whose later years led them away from the outward-bound excess of rock and punk to the introspective songwriting of folk and Americana. He has recently left Los Angeles to return to his hometown of Nevada City, California.
Dead Winter Carpenters represent everything the American west stands for. With an unbridled spirit, and an authentic approach to the art of songwriting, the five-piece roots-rock band captures the freedom of the road with the kind of energy that is made of legends. In just one short year on the road, the project has already found considerable national success and with top level festival and theater dates booked around the country.

“This Americana quintet hails from Lake Tahoe and sounds like Alison Krauss after pounding whiskey shots and cans of Red Bull. In other words, it’s roots-rock with an energetic pulse. Consider their funky-folk-country-shuffle jam “Sun Don’t Shine,” which shines a spotlight on talented musicians who also deliver tight harmony vocals, something you don’t hear much anymore outside of an Eagles concert. Fiery fiddling and pumping upright bass are other aspects of this band that I can’t praise enough. They also accomplish jaw-dropping live renditions of women’s traditional blues songs such as “I Know You Rider.” I’d better see all my hippie-jamband-Deadhead friends at this show or else I’m going to confiscate your water pipes. Sandal up, brothers and sisters!” – Weekly Seven, Jarret Keene
